The Role
Reporting to the Partner, the Manager is responsible for conducting detailed file reviews, mentoring staff, and ensuring the accuracy and compliance of financial statements and tax filings. The manager works closely with both clients and team members, providing guidance on complex accounting matters, tax compliance, and business advisory services.
Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed file reviews of compilations, review engagements, and corporate tax returns to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Oversee the preparation of T2 tax returns, Notice to Reader (NTR) financial statements, and Review Engagement files.
- Support and mentor staff by providing training, technical guidance, and assistance with client files and workplace matters.
- Assist clients with bookkeeping, financial reporting, and general business advisory needs.
- Communicate with clients regarding year-end document requests, financial statement reviews, accounting inquiries, and tax-related advice.
- Prepare and file various tax forms, including T2062s, T1261s, charity returns, HST filings, SBITC submissions, and PSB rebates as needed.
- Ensure high-quality deliverables by reviewing and improving workflow processes within the accounting team.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- A CPA designation, or current enrollment in the CPA program is considered a strong asset.
- 5+ years of public accounting experience, with a focus on compilations, review engagements, and corporate tax.
- Experience conducting detailed file reviews and mentoring junior staff.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting standards (ASPE), tax regulations, and compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in accounting and tax software (e.g., CaseWare, TaxPrep, QuickBooks, Sage 50, or similar).
- Advanced knowledge of corporate tax returns (T2s), HST filings, charity returns, and other tax-related forms.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong communication and client service abilities.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Bilingualism in French and English is considered an asset
